love is hard work (1985) was created in conversation with Corita’s design for the iconic LOVE stamp, which featured her rainbow swatches and the word LOVE.
When the stamp debuted on the set of The Love Boat, Corita declined to attend, observing that television made love seem quick and conflict easy to resolve. Her response was to add three words beneath LOVE: “is hard work.” The work belongs to Corita’s final body of prints, produced in 1985.
